About

    About

Our Southwood neighborhood families enjoy large lots and mature trees which provide a relaxing environment in which to live. We include both the Southwood and Southwood Extended neighborhoods and have a voluntary HOA (with dues of just $50/year!).

The mission of the Southwood Neighborhood Association (SNA) is to preserve, protect, and enhance the character of our residential property, promote harmonious living within the neighborhood; and to be an advocate for our neighborhood while working with the City of Bixby, and various private and professional entities. We normally hold an annual meeting and an annual neighborhood block party.

Any resident or property owner in the Southwood, Southwood Resub., and Southwood Extended neighborhood subdivisions is eligible for membership in the Association. However, only property owners have voting privileges.  Click here to join!

Do I Live in Southwood??

Our neighborhood is between Memorial and Mingo, from 111th to the houses on either side of 116th, with the exception of the development at 111th & Mingo, Country Crossing. The neighborhoods between 116th & 121st are Southern Memorial Acres (on the Memorial side) and Twin Creeks (on the Mingo side). Click here to view maps of the Southwood and Southwood Extended neighborhoods.

  • It was a quiet year for our neighborhood, and Russ provided updates on the City of Bixby, and well as the drainage project that has been ongoing.

  •  It was approved at the 2024 Annual Meeting, to research and prepare for a vote to amend the Southwood plats. Southwood and Southwood Extended span from Memorial to Mingo. The Southwood plat covers the western half and the Southwood Extended plat is the eastern half of that span. The plats allow to be amended every 10 years. 2025 is that 10 year option for Southwood and 2026 is the year for Southwood Extended. Be suer to read the newsletter for all the details!

  • Updates on street and property improvements from the City of Bixby

  •  We are able to amend the Southwood Covenants every 10 years and that’s coming up in 2025 & 2026. This is an opportunity to address some of the weaknesses in our Covenants, as our Lawyer recommended after we won our lawsuit. Our current Association is too weak, but we also know the majority of us only want what is just necessary to protect our interests. We need to provide a little more authority to it so that it can serve us better, but not create a monster. We will be discussing this over the coming year.

2023 SNA Annual Meeting

Nov 7, 7:00pm at Evergreen Baptist Church

Hello Neighbors! I hope that all is well with you and your families. It suddenly feels very Fall-like this weekend doesn't it?

We have the Annual Meeting for SNA scheduled for 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 7th, at the Evergreen Baptist Church, which is at 10301 E. 111th Street, between Mingo & Garnett on the north side of the street. It is to be in the coffee area near the entry, which is where we ended up having the Annual Meeting last year. We'll keep an eye on the clock and work to make sure that we're on our way home in about an hour.

We've had another nice quiet year for SNA. I had intended to have some discussions with membership this past summer about considerations to amend our plats in 2025 & 2027, but time got away from me. This is why I start on items like this early! I'll discuss at the Annual Meeting, some topics for us all to consider. These are rather big topics to discuss, so there will be a number of chances for comments and input. Plus I'll ask for feedback in the Newsletter too.

We'll hear from the SNA Board Members, I'll discuss upcoming projects by the City of Bixby per my discussions with City Staff, and also hold SNA Officer elections.

Please tell your neighbors about the meeting, especially if they're fairly new move-ins. I've got a sizeable email list of people in the neighborhood, but it's only about half of our total SNA households.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Annual Meeting.

Sincerely; Russ

(Late) 2022 Annual Meeting

Rescheduled to February 21, 7:00, North Heights Church of Christ

Our (late) Annual 2022 Meeting will be on January 31, 2023 (now rescheduled for Feb 21 due to winter weather) at the North Heights Church of Christ (11710 S. Memorial Drive), at 7:00 pm.

We were able to reschedule the SNA Annual Meeting to February 21st, Tuesday, 7:00pm at the North Heights Church of Christ. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative in a couple of weeks.

Stay warm and be careful if you're out and about these next couple of days.

2021 Annual Meeting

November 16, 7:00, North Heights Church of Christ

Greetings Southwood Neighbors!! I hope that you all are doing well. it's been another very interesting year hasn't it. We're a tad late in getting the Annual Meeting scheduled as initially I'd hoped we'd have resolution on the law suit, but we do not. Our legal system in the US, sure isn't what Perry Mason made it look like back in the day! Nothing moves fast including rendering a verdict! The trial was in early August, and as of today, still no verdict, nor do we have any idea when the Judge may present the verdict. So we wait, and wait, and wait...

Also to, there was that darn Covid flareup a couple of months ago, but things have settled down and the church is once again allowing us to use their space, so we get to meet in person! So Nice! For those who have attended in the past, y'all know there's plenty of space to spread out. No mask required, but if you feel more at ease wearing one, then do so. If you feel more at ease not wearing one, then do so as well!

The meeting time is the usual time at 7:00. If you don't feel like attending, or the weather is poor, I will summarize the meeting topics and discussion in the newsletter, which I'll likely work on over Thanksgiving weekend and issue at end of November or beginning of December.

Since the trial is not yet complete, I won't say too much about my +1 days on the witness stand, sheesh! That'll wait until after the verdict is issued. Then I'll see about us gathering again and I'll go over all the details. I learned a lot at the trial and will be glad to share that with you all, and then we'll discuss the future, which I believe will be good! 🙂

Hope to see you all next week;

Russ Fisher

  • We have ruling on the legal case the SNA is pursuing against a former resident (as a reminder they split the lot, violating our neighborhood covenants. We want to preserve the large lots that make Southwood such a special place!).

  • The Judge ruled in our favor on the lawsuit between SNA and Ms. Bazay!! Such incredible news to receive rather out of the blue. The trial was during the first week of August, and the final Summary Statements from the Attorneys were required to be submitted by the end of September.

  • Upcoming improvement projects the City of Bixby is planning in the upcoming year.

  • An update on the legal case the SNA is pursuing against a former resident who split his lot, violating our neighborhood covenants. We are doing this to preserve the large lots that make Southwood such a special place.

  • Information on the Southwood Covenants, and how those relate to the City of Bixby. TLDR: A permit from the City does not mean you're in compliance with the covenants!

  • SNA had a busy year, with a number of issues confronting us this past year challenging our neighborhood to remain what has been a defining character for us, which is our low density large lot neighborhood.

  • One issue is a pending sale of a lot split tracts, violting our cevenants, has made it necessary
for SNA to file suit against the property owner.

  • We're working with the City on permits being issued that violate our covenants.

  • Greg & Julie Fuller have agreed to host our annual block partyon Oct. 5th.
